Function of Beauty Shampoo & Conditioner | Personalised Hair Care | Review

Function of Beauty is another brand continuously appearing all over my Instagram feed and I was intrigued.

I saw so many YouTube videos; some sharing good reviews & others not so good. It seemed another one of those things where you simply need to try for yourself...

So what is Function of Beauty?

It's a hair and body care brand, specialising in personalised formulas.

You simply fill out your 'hair profile' questionnaire on their website where you choose your hair goals and hair type. They will then mix that formula specifically for your hair type and goals. It's pretty awesome!

Hair goals include 'shine', 'fix split ends', 'colour protection', 'volume' etc. depending on what you want your hair to look & feel like. Totally personalised!

Personalisation

I think it's most girls dream to have really nice hair. Your hair can make you feel good when you get it right. With Function of Beauty, you can choose 5 hair benefits; whereas with standard shampoos you usually have to choose between one or the other.

Anything personalised these days is a winner for me. Brands are finally realising that us humans are not the same. We all have different needs, especially when it comes to beauty.

Colour:

So if choosing your personalised hair goals wasn't enough, you can also choose the colours of your shampoo & conditioner formula - each separately! I mean, I know I fall for these 'gimmicks' that don't necessarily add to the products performance but who wouldn't want to choose pretty colours for your hair & body care?!

Pumps:

A big reason I wanted to try the hair care was the simple but genius fact they have pumps! How much easier is it to pump your shampoo & conditioner out than faffing around with bottles, dropping them and having to use all your strength to get the last bits out the bottle... I don't miss that :)

Some people may think that's lazy but really, it's a GAME CHANGER.

Fragrance:

You choose your fragrance and how strong you'd like it. You can choose from things like 'peach' or 'eucalyptus' and light, medium or strong.

Bottle size:

You choose your bottle sizes and can even have a larger shampoo or conditioner depending on what you use more of - or you can have the same bottle sizes.

Add your name to the bottle:

Did I mention you can add a name to your bottles... yes, that's right. You can add your name to your bottles omg!

Stickers:

The last personalised feature is stickers. STICKERS?! I mean, if you aren't sold already I'm not sure what to say. I'm not working for these guys by the way, I just blog about things i'm passionate about.

My hair, before & after

As you can tell by now, I am in LOVE with my shampoo & conditioner choices. I have come to the conclusion that if people don't get on with it, they potentially haven't nailed the right formula for their hair.

The thing to note is that everyone will probably experience different results depending on their hair type and formula choices.

I really took time to think about what I wanted my goals to be and what hair type I have. My hair looks pretty thick but my strands are actually fine. I googled what defines 'fine' hair and I found that it's when 1 strand of hair is thinner than a cotton thread.

My hair gets greasy quick but I get so many dry flakes and my scalp is itchy. So I didn't know whether to choose 'dry' or 'oily' as my scalp choices but the recommendation to tackle this is to choose oily scalp moisture but 'soothe scalp' as a hair goal. This means your scalp should be less oily but also soothed from the dryness - totally makes sense.

Baring this in mind, here were my choices:

Hair type: Straight

Hair Structure: Fine

Scalp moisture: Oily

The hair goals I chose were Volume, Shine, Soothe Scalp, Deep condition & Strengthen.

That is exactly what I want for my hair. Healthy, strong, shiny & soft <3

Because I wasn't sure whether I was going to like Function of Beauty hair care, I played it safe & bought the smallest 8oz bottle of shampoo & conditioner.

How long did the bottles last?

These 2 bottles lasted over a month. The 1st 2 weeks I was on holiday in Portugal and my hair was washed every single day. When I returned home, it was washed every other day.

I can tell you I now don't have dry flakey bits in my hair, it's super soft - almost fluffy & so conditioned it feels amazing!!

I also found the 2nd day my hair wasn't going greasy nowhere near as quick as usual shampoos!

It does seem quite pricey when you first look into it, but honestly I find it so worth it. It lasts a good amount of time, it's so much easier to use and leaves my hair condition SO incredible.

I've just played my second order. This time I've gone for different colours, the larger 16oz size as it's better value and I know it's perfect for my hair. I also treated myself to the body care! I ordered body wash & body lotion.

The body care is also lush!! Body wash is creamy, so moisturising and smells amazing. Body lotion is like no other i've used. It helps my dry skin so much. It sinks in and stays on the top of your skin a little so it doesn't sink in and feel fairly dry again, it stays moisturising for such a long time.

As much as I don't like the fact I'm sharing my greasy, grown out fringe on the internet, I thought this might be useful.

The first picture below is on my 'in-between' wash days using a supermarket shampoo.

The second picture is Function of Beauty. You can really tell the difference.

Finally - I thought I'd add in a picture of my hair after I started using the Shampoo & Conditioner. Hopefully you can see the quality of it. It feels so silky, soft, smooth & healthy.

My hair never looked this good before.

Have you tried Function of Beauty? If you have, let me know how you found it? If you haven't, I'd recommend trying it but make sure you think about your choices so you get the right match for your hair.
